Emerging Leader

Applications will be assessed by a panel of executive peers based on the following dimensions:

  • Leadership Potential in Action – Demonstrates initiative, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to lead and influence others in dynamic or complex environments
  • Innovation, Resilience & Problem Solving – Applies supply chain knowledge creatively to improve processes, address challenges, and contribute to resilient and forward-thinking solutions
  • Measurable Impact & Value Creation – Delivers meaningful and measurable results through projects, initiatives, or operational improvements, with clear evidence of individual contribution and business impact
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Influence – Effectively engages cross-functional teams and stakeholders, building alignment, motivating others, and contributing positively to team success
  • Commitment to Continuous Growth & Professional Advancement – Demonstrates curiosity, ongoing learning, and active participation in advancing personal capability and contributing to the broader supply chain profession and community

Nominated individuals must have demonstrated supply chain knowledge and leadership for the project submitted. The project must have concluded within the prior 12 months and the project scope must have been within the previous 5 years. Results will include the personal impact of the individual on the project, as well as the project impact, that resulted from the supply chain knowledge and innovation, along with the leadership demonstrated by influencing and engaging internal stakeholders and teams in the solution.

This award recognizes senior supply chain and procurement leaders with 20+ years of experience, whose sustained contributions have shaped talent, advanced practice, and elevated the profession across organizations and sectors. It honours individuals whose impact extends beyond their immediate organizations—demonstrating leadership character grounded in integrity, accountability, humility, courage, and sound judgment, while influencing meaningful change across the broader supply chain ecosystem.

Nominated individuals must be established leaders with a demonstrated track record of sustained impact that reaches beyond their own teams or organizations. This includes contributions to supply chain capability development, process innovation, and the advancement of best practices across the profession.

Submissions should reflect career-spanning leadership impact, including strategic initiatives, transformations, or contributions delivered within the past 3–5 years, supported by measurable outcomes and broader professional influence.

Eligibility Senior Leader

To qualify for The NISCL Senior Supply Chain Leader of the Year Award, nominees must meet the following criteria:

  • Must lead a team
  • Must have at least 10 years in progressive leadership roles
  • Must have at least 5 years leading supply chain function/team
  • Must currently be accountable for Supply Chain functions within the organization
  • Does not need to be a NISCL member

Successful supply chain professionals adapt through times of crisis and change and recent years have served up plenty of both. Please share your biggest supply chain accomplishment in the past year related to a team project. Describe your personal contributions related to supply chain knowledge and innovation, as well as your efforts to motivate and inspire others on the team. How did you embody good judgement, referencing the Ian O. Ihnatowycz Leader Framework? What was the impact and result of the project?

Provide empirical data to define the results. Also provide contextual information to support why this result was special.

How do you continue to grow in supply chain knowledge and leadership skills?

Describe how you participate in the community of supply chain beyond your role at work.

Executive Questions

Describe a defining initiative or body of work that best reflects your impact as a supply chain leader. What was your role, and how did you influence outcomes across teams, organizations, or the broader ecosystem? How did you demonstrate leadership character (e.g., integrity, courage, humility, judgment) in your approach? What were the long-term results?

Senior Leader Questions

Successful supply chain leaders are charged with leading their organization through times of crisis and change and recent years have served up plenty of both. Please share your biggest accomplishment in the past year related to leading your team through a challenge.

In the context of supply chain leadership, the ability to inspire and develop others is crucial. Please share a detailed example of how you are developing emerging leaders. Describe how you played a significant role in helping someone on your team transition into a leadership position, and include the strategies you employed, and what outcomes resulted.

Leveraging your expertise and showing courage and influence are paramount in driving strategy. Give an example of a time when you had to persuade the “C-Suite” at your organization of a new strategy outside of your expected KPI’s. What did you do to identify the opportunity, influence the decision making and adapt the strategy?

Your impact is often viewed both internally at your organization and also externally within your community. Give an example of how you are giving back to the industry. How have you expanded your impact on the Canadian Supply Chain?
